  Mr. B and Mr. K

Let’s pretend - Part 1

Imagine there are these two gentlemen running for president of a great nation - Mr B and Mr K.

Mr B appears to be a genuinely God-fearing man. He appears to have had a real conversion experience. Coming from a political party not always known for its love and compassion, he speaks of those attributes with a real conviction and true desire for his party to return to them.

Why, Mr B even goes so far as to publicly confess his abhorrence for abortion, not a very politically correct thing to do in today’s social climate, no matter which side of the aisle one sits on.

By all impressions, and even in spite of a social faux pas or two, he probably is a potentially great leader who is a real Christian.

Mr K, on the other hand, claims to be Christian, and very well may be, but...

Mr K, despite being Catholic, takes a pro-abortion position. Mr K also has trouble making up his mind and being completely upfront about things.

It seems Mr K, although claiming to be a believer - and he very well may be although not a very good one - is perhaps not the pillar of moral excellence that his country always requires.

Election Results

Now, if Mr B gets elected, it may be a victory for character, morality, and integrity. These are things for which his country desperately needs leadership.

However, if Mr K gets elected many Christians will be afraid. Many fear a continuing unraveling of the moral fabric of their nation, a nation which although economically stable, is bordering on spiritual and moral bankruptcy.

What should Christians do if Mr B is elected? Pray for him daily, of course. Pray that he keeps his promises to the unborn and elderly, that he is a God-fearing leader, that he seeks God’s wisdom in all that he does, and that maybe he doesn't trust everything the CIA tells him.

But what if Mr K gets elected? Is this the end of the nation as we know it? Should Christians hunker down and prepare for the Second Coming? May it never be! (the hunker down part, I mean!). Here is a point of opportunity a lot of believers are missing: Mr K claims to believe, correct? If he gets elected and he has some belief left, imagine this...

Let’s Pretend - Part 2

Instead of spending time cursing the new President, what might happen if a million Christians spent time praying for him. This may have dramatic spiritual effects.

Mr K may really see the wisdom of seeking God! He may be moved to truly look at the White House as a place of moral integrity! He may - miraculously - make a choice not based on the winds of change and political correctness, but instead on what is right! He may see the unborn as human beings with a right to life rather than as "products of conception" with no rights whatsoever.

And maybe he won't be such a grump.

Who knows? With the prayer support of millions of Christians, obeying Jesus by praying for him whether they like him personally or not, Mr K may turn out to be a pretty good leader after all.

If he is elected. ;)
