  Free Will and Election

by Hugh Ross, Ph.D.

Sample Problem:

Bible = Truth (2 Tim. 3:15-17; 2 Pet. 1:19-21; 1 John 5:6).

God = Love (1 John 4:7, 16).

God designates some people for hell before they are born (Rom. 9:11-13).

Designating people for hell before they are born does not equal love (Ex. 23:7; Deut. 27:25; Ps. 10:7-8).

Therefore, God is not love, or the Bible does not equal truth, or the Bible needs reinterpretation.

What is wrong here?

Solutions:

1. It is true that a triangle is not a circle yet a triangle can be a circle.

In two space dimensions, we can visualize that a triangle is not a circle.

In three space dimensions, we can visualize both a triangle not being a circle yet a triangle being a series of circles, one on top of the other.

2. It is true that a return trip to the Andromeda galaxy would require a minimum of 4 million years, but it can be completed in just thirty years.

With Newtonian physics, we only can visualize a minimum 4-million-year trip.

With relativistic physics, we can visualize both a minimum 4-million-year trip and a trip of just thirty years.

3. It is true that election and free will are operable simultaneously.

In one time and three space dimensions, we can visualize that free will is operable.

In God's multi-dimensions, we would visualize that election and free will are operable simultaneously.
