july 2003 Print this out, then, when you feel ready, when you feel prepared to be challenged, you go ahead and read it. And you like it. And you show it to others. And, behold! they like it, too. And they tell two friends and they tell two friends, and so on and so on. Today the web! Tomorrow the world!

spirit west coast!
Time to check the blood pressure - it's High Stress time again for us. We're toting the tracts, shipping the shirts, bagging the books, packing the paraphernalia. At the end of the month we speed off to Spirit West Coast, up Hell's Highway - Interstate 5 - to set up what is annually the only apologetics booth in the Whole Darn State of California. We expect of the 20000+ people going this year that at least 200 will stop by the booth and pick up stuff. Three relatives, a pastor friend of ours, and 196 preteens asking if we have any "free stickers."
anotherthink gets a bink
Charlie LeHardy is just a "humble Christian who enjoys writing and is trying to spread a little of God's salt on the black ice of the Internet." That's what he says about himself. We say he's an insightful, thought-provoking, very good essayist. His site - AnotherThink.com - contains essays on everything from faith to fear to coffee growers, including how to put faith to action. And he gets a Binky Award for it! Another sincerely proud moment in Christianity is his work. Go Charlie! Then go to his site and read and print and give to friends!
what? another shirt???
You love God. You hold to all the basic tenets of the Christian faith. You want to be of use while here on this planet. But you are tired of being pigeon-holed together with right-wing, Bible-thumping, heavily accented, hypocritical, non-thinking, cult-like religious zealots out there.
So are we.
So we made a new shirt -
(un)orthodox Christian.
A shirt
which tells the world "Yes I am orthodox in my beliefs, but unorthodox in my lifestyle, that is: I care. I listen. I'll pray with you. I have a brain. I question. I want to hear your questions. I seek truth. I'll admit when I am wrong. I am not a cookie-cutter subculture believer, consarnit!!!" and so on. Even the font is unorthodox.
See it here and then order one. Then go change the world.
not too gay about the Supreme Court decision?
Most of us Americans are in a quandary. Is the recent Supreme Court decision involving homosexuality a good thing (no gov't in the bedroom!) or a bad thing (as in homosexuality is a bad thing)? Want an intelligent spin on it? So did we. So we looked to Chuck Colson's Response to the Texas Sodomy Law Decision. Go here for a thoughtful, non-gay-bashing, non-rights-happy, caaaaaalm look at the issue.
tract happy!
We have a bunch of these here tracts - What the Big Bang says about the Evidence of God and the Design of the Universe. Want some? For free? All you gotta do is... ask.

youthful insights
A young man by the name of Chris Dunlap wrote a wee sketch on the absurdity of the logic used by atheists and skeptics to discount the God of the Bible. It's called Proof of the Punch, and it's a hoot (OED n. A laugh; a cause of laughter, a joke, a very amusing situation.), and it gives us hope that there is a future for American Christian youth. (Chris is all of 18!) Go here.
give 'em an inch
Alright Already! Y'know, apparently there are a lot of writers out there who want to share their stuff which is fine by us. Here is another article for your consideration by a previous contributor, Jim Schicatano. It's titled: The Biblical Creation Days of Genesis. Here's his abstract:
For the past century, the Biblical Creation story has come under considerable scrutiny and derision by the scientific community. Much of the controversy centers around the length of the Biblical Creation Day.
While many Fundamentalist Christians insist that a Creation Day must span the traditional twenty-four hours, mainstream science has determined that the age of the Earth is over 4.5 billion years old. Consequently, for the Bible and science to be reconciled, a Creation Day would have to span longer periods of time.
This article will demonstrate that long Creation Days are not only possible but with a clearer understanding of the arguments the Biblical text virtually mandates them.
And here is the article that may support that tall order. And if you're the type that likes to surf the net looking for Bible/science articles, check out his site.
hayford & ross together in a very special...!
In a very related story, Pastor Jack Hayford sits down with Dr Hugh Ross to hash it all out on this here videotape. Where does this guy, this astrophysicist(!) stand on the inerrancy of the Bible, salvation, and the interpretation of Scripture. Well, contrary to what some militant propagandists might say, he actually seems pretty downright... well... orthodox! Get the tape yourself: Genesis and Creation - A Pastor's appeal for charity and clarity. It's a must for all pastors and those curious as to the truth behind the man. Get it here. (If we could afford it, we'd give it to you!) Click here for big pic of video.
we get letters!

I have been thinking about our abortion discussion. I hate to admit it ;), but I think you are right. It may have something to do with the fact that I just viewed the powerpoint on your site on abortion. Wow. I'll show that to my pro choice friends. Whew!

...Finally, I share this concern with you trusting you are open-minded and open to dissent. Regarding the Iraq war, a very sensitive issue in USA, please note there is a vast opposition outside the USA against it, and for very good, informed reasons. It is no use putting articles such as Koukl's in which a person in favor of the war "rebuts" arguments against it, since not all the arguments appear there and there is nobody to defend the ones that are allegedly "rebutted". It just doesn't look like good, healthy, fair Apologetics. That is, you either open up discussion to all opinions or just drop the matter completely (nationalism/patriotism is good, but doesn't look good on an Apologetics site!). I hope you don't take offense. Keep up with a superb site!

I was looking at your new shirts and thinking hey I should get one of those and then I saw that it has a CS Lewis quote on it and well, it's like divine providence... anything CS Lewis will ultimately end up in my possession.

bottom line
* pray for spirit west coast! 1) that we can have one-on-one discussions with a lot of folk, 2) that we don't get too cynical surrounded by Jesus Junk, 3) that we get there and back safely, 4) that SWC becomes a God-centered event in which people break out of rather than absorb into the dead-end Christian subculture. thanks!
Thanks for your kind words of support and encouragement. We don't expect to please everyone with what we say and how we do it. So prayer and encouragement are always welcome. Thanks very much from the two three of us!

and Jaso
